Skip Hire Services in Harlescott
We deliver skips into Harlescott and north Shrewsbury (SY1) from £150, with next-day delivery as standard and same-day subject to availability - a family-run, Environment Agency registered firm that has run its own fleet from our Madeley depot in Telford for over 20 years.
Local skip hire across Harlescott
Harlescott is the working north side of Shrewsbury, and we cover all of it: the Harlescott Grange estate, the streets off Harlescott Lane, and the homes and businesses along the A5112 Whitchurch Road and Battlefield Road corridor, either side of Harlescott Crossroads and up to the Battlefield roundabout. We take in the neighbouring patches too - Ditherington to the south, Sundorne to the east and Battlefield to the north - and across Harlescott Lane towards the A528 Ellesmere Road side of town. If you are anywhere in SY1, we deliver to you.
We will be straight with you: we are a Telford firm, based in Madeley, not a Shrewsbury yard - and we run skips into north Shrewsbury from our own depot rather than subcontracting. Every size is kept in stock - 3 and 4 yard minis, 6 yard midis, our most popular 8 yard builders skip, and 10 and 12 yard maxis - and because we own the fleet, next-day delivery is the standard offer, with same-day possible subject to availability. Standard hire includes 7 days, and you can book online in about two minutes.
Skip sizes for Harlescott homes and projects
Harlescott's housing is mostly mid-twentieth-century semis. The Harlescott Grange estate went up in the mid-1950s as part of Shrewsbury's post-war housing drive, and today it is a mix of ex-council semi-detached houses and terraces with established gardens, along with some flats. For a kitchen or bathroom rip-out in a 1950s semi, a 4 or 6 yard skip is usually the sweet spot; for a garden clearance, a shed or garage demolition or a tidy-up of one of those mature estate gardens, a 3 or 4 yard mini often does the job.
The 8 yard builders skip is the one most households reach for - it holds roughly 80 bin bags' worth of mixed waste and suits a full house clearance, an end-of-tenancy or landlord clear-out, or a bigger renovation. One local tip: plenty of semis here have driveways, and replacing one or re-doing the hard landscaping generates heavy hardcore and soil. Split heavy loads across smaller skips rather than filling a maxi - a 10 or 12 yard skip full of soil would exceed safe lifting weights, so smaller loads keep the job legal and liftable.
Skip delivery to Harlescott and SY1
The run from our Madeley depot is a simple one: M54 westbound, continuing as the A5 towards Shrewsbury, off at Emstrey Island onto the A5064 London Road, then north up the A5112 eastern relief route - Telford Way onto Whitchurch Road - straight to Harlescott Crossroads. Our drivers never thread a skip lorry through the medieval town centre, and Harlescott itself is one of the easiest parts of the town to deliver to: the A5112 is Shrewsbury's eastern relief route and the estates are mid-twentieth-century layouts with proper road widths.
We place every skip on your own private driveway or land - all the driver needs is a firm, level spot with clear access for the lorry. Worth knowing when you pick a delivery slot: the Harlescott Lane level crossing stops traffic near the Lancaster Road junction, the retail traffic around Tesco Extra, Morrisons and Sundorne Retail Park queues at peak times, and roadworks recur on the A5112 corridor. None of it stops us - just tell us about your access when you book and we will plan the drop around it.
Commercial skips around Harlescott
Harlescott is one of the most industrial parts of Shrewsbury, and a good share of our SY1 work is trade work. We supply 8, 10 and 12 yard skips to the units across Battlefield Enterprise Park and the Harlescott industrial estate - Vanguard Way, Lancaster Road, Brixton Way and Battlefield Way - as well as the trade counters, dealerships and businesses along the A5112 corridor. Unit clearances, fit-out strip-outs and shopfitting waste from the retail frontages are bread-and-butter jobs for us, and the wide estate roads make yard access straightforward.
For trades and businesses that need waste moved regularly, we run scheduled and repeat collections and set up commercial accounts so you are not re-booking every week. Everything is handled through our own Madeley facility, and as an Environment Agency registered carrier we provide the waste transfer documentation your compliance file needs.
Eco-friendly disposal at our Madeley facility
Every Harlescott skip comes back along the A5 to our own facility in Madeley, where loads are sorted by hand and machine rather than tipped straight to landfill. We divert over 90% of what we collect away from landfill - recovering wood, metal, rubble, soil and clean hardcore for re-use, and recycling or recovering the rest.
We accept general household and garden waste, construction and renovation debris, wood, metal, rubble, soil and furniture. Some things cannot go in a skip by law or for safety: asbestos, plasterboard (it must be kept separate from general waste), batteries, paint and liquids, tyres, electrical items and WEEE, gas bottles and hazardous chemicals. If you are unsure about a particular item, ask us when you book and we will point you the right way.
About Harlescott
Harlescott has been Shrewsbury's working quarter for over a century. The Sentinel Waggon Works and a former RAF supply depot gave the area its industrial character, and the first post-war homes at Harlescott Grange were around fifty prefab bungalows - some built for Sentinel workers - before the main mid-1950s estate followed. From 1956 to 2006 Shrewsbury's livestock market traded here, and the Tesco Extra on Battlefield Road now stands on the old cattle market site, beside one of Shrewsbury's three Park & Ride car parks. With the Welsh Marches line still rattling over the Harlescott Lane level crossing, it is a suburb with work in its bones - our kind of place.
Green Skip Hire runs from our Madeley (TF7) depot, covering Telford, Shrewsbury and the wider Shropshire area. For full coverage, prices and FAQs, see our main service hubs: skip hire in Shrewsbury and skip hire in Telford.
