Madeley is one of the oldest places in Telford — a historic market town recorded in Domesday that sat at the heart of the East Shropshire coalfield, with close to a hundred named pits in the old parish and a deep ironworking history tied to Abraham Darby, who lived and died at Madeley Court. The Anstice in the centre of the district, opened in 1870 as a memorial to mine owner John Anstice, is often called the oldest working men's club in England, and Thomas Telford himself designed the octagonal St Michael's parish church. We've served Telford and Shropshire for many years, and being based right here in Madeley is something we're genuinely proud of.
